Grandma comes to visit!

My mom was able to come to Utah for several days because of Becky having Jake.  It was so great to have her come!   We met her out at the airport on Saturday, June 2nd and took her to the hospital to meet Jake.

Greeting Sophia

My mom brought Jack a hat from Turkey and had gotten herself a Turkish rug - makes for a cute Aladdin scene!

One of the funnest times of her visit was the quilt shop hop that the girls went on.  We had Emily & her friend Kate babysit all 8 kids and we went to 3 quilt stores.  The shop hop theme this year was:

Those Were The Days.

Each store picked an old TV show, decorated for it and made it super fun!  We went to Mormon Handicraft (Little House on the Prairie), Elaine's (M*A*S*H), Quilts Etc. (Cheers) and Pine Needles (Happy Days).   I had such a great time and really wished that we could have had the entire day (plus a couple more) to go to more of the stores.

We finished with lunch at Gardner Village at Archibald's!  What a great way to spend the last day of my mom's visit!

Awards Assembly

Last Wednesday, I was able to go to the school again for Lindsey & Jack's award assembly.  Each teacher picks a couple of awards to give to students in their class.   I'm always so proud of them earning both academic and citizenship awards!

Jack won the "Best Behavior" award

Lindsey won the high honors in Math award

And this child was awful!  I took both little girls and she was terrible!  FINALLY, she fell asleep in the stroller!

Kindergarten Talent Show

During the last week of school, the Kindergarten teacher had the kids do a little talent show.  Because the kids had just had their art show (Emily, Lindsey, Jack & Kate all take art from our neighbor), we had some fresh art for Kate to show.   She really does an amazing job!  It takes a long of concentration for a 6 year old to do these.

Nice work Kate!!

And her cute friends, Josie & Kage showed their talent of jump roping!   So cute!

Welcoming Baby Jake

On early Friday, June 1st, we excitedly welcomed a new nephew/cousin, Jake Stephen Mortensen!  He's the little boy of my sister Becky and her husband John.

Becky was kind enough to invite me to watch him born and it was absolutely wonderful!   Becky went into labor on Thursday night around 7:30 and by 8:30 she was headed to the hospital.  She was already a 4 when she checked in and they started an IV and gave her antibiotics.  Of course, my Jon was at work, so I called my brother Mike to see if he could come sleep on my couch.  Mike is a gem and came after he played in a softball game.  He got there about midnight.  The nurse had told Becky that she'd probably not deliver until 3 or 4, so Mike and I decided to get a little bit of sleep in case Jon got home, so that Mike could come wait at the hospital.  I told Becky that I'd head in around 2, with or without Mike.

She called at 1:50 a.m. and said to come now!  I got up and hurried to the hospital.  I walked in the Labor & Delivery room at 2:10 and they had Becky all ready to push.  She did about 3 pushes and out he came at 2:14 a.m!    A-MAZE-ING!!   Becky was a champ (and so much easier than pushing for 2 hours like she did with Brooklyn).  I was so grateful I made it and so grateful that Mike made it possible for me to be there.  (Jon was at that same hospital and I ended up making it home before him!).

Jake weighed 8 lbs. 13 oz and was 21 1/2 inches long.  He loved laying on his mom's chest and trying to focus his little eyes on her.   He is perfect!   I think he has similar features to Brooklyn and he's just the nicest little baby!

A super, huge congratulations to Becky & John!

Emily's 6th grade promotion

A week ago, Emily officially graduated from Elementary School!  Oh my!!   What a beautiful young woman she has turned into - with a personality that is just as sweet as her face!  We are so proud of her.  She's got wonderful friends, worked hard to get straight "A's", plays a great game of soccer, is kind to everyone and is so pleasant to be with!

The school had a 6th grade promotion and it was fun to see her recognized.  She received High Honors for citizenship, the gold Presidential Award for getting straight "A's" for 4th-6th grade and her teacher gave her the "Best All Around Student" award.

Now onto the land of Junior High School (gulp!)!

Receiving 'congratulations' from the 6th grade teachers and principal.

Lindsey's science fair

Are you getting a feel for how busy May was??!!   There's still a couple more posts after this one too!

Lindsey was able to put together a science fair project as a 4th grade assignment and the thing I loved most about it was that they did ALL the work at school!  We just had to buy the supplies and she did all the work while at school.   Her teacher, Mrs. Horne, is incredible!!

After they worked on them and put them all together, they set up in the multi-purpose room so all the students and parents could come take a look.  Lindsey's project was about water power and how water moves things.   Great job Lindsey!!

Kate & Hannah even got to try it
