Salt Flats & Lake Tahoe

Two weeks ago from tomorrow, we packed up the Suburban and headed towards California for a family trip.  Our final destination was Santa Cruz, CA to meet up with the Johnstons, Rasmussens & my mother-in-law & sister-inlaw.   We decided to drive down in two days, which made our first stop Lake Tahoe.

About an hour & a half out of Salt Lake, we took a quick detour to the salt flats that are right along the freeway.   It was crazy to drive on and even though he begged, I wouldn't let Jon do "donuts" on them.  Not in a Suburban.  Not with our entire family in the car.

They were cool though!

When we got to Tahoe, we checked into our lodge and then went for a small hike to a waterfall.  The kids were great and had a fun time.

After hiking, we drove to a small town to a restaurant called "Bridgetender" and ate dinner.  It was pretty tasty.   The kids slept great that night and the next morning we were off for Santa Cruz!

Up With Kids Show - Alice in Wonderland

The first full week of summer break, Kate & Lindsey went to Up With Kids Camp.  They'd go every day from 10 am. to 4 p.m.   They did "Alice in Wonderland" and they LOVED it.  I sort of think the story of Alice in Wonderland is dumb, but I really enjoyed their version.   They got assigned parts on Monday and then after working each day, they performed it Friday night.

Hailey wanted to wear our Alice in Wonderland costume (that my mom made years ago for Emily).

It was a perfect summer night!

I wasn't positioned very well to get a good shot of Kate - she's in the yellow shirt.   This was the tea party scene.

Kate was "Tweedle Dude"

Again - great job girls!
They'll do one more week of camp during the summer.  Hannah will do it then too!

Lindsey - 6th Grade Promotion

I had another child graduate from Elementary School!  That means next year I will have 2 in Jr. High (ours is 7th through 9th), 3 in Elementary School and one in Preschool!   Amazing!

Lindsey had a great 6th grade year!   She has such a nice group of girls and boys that she goes to school with and she had a great teacher (and a great PTA President I might add:)).

The day before school ended, she had her 6th grade graduation.

Lindsey worked really hard to earn the Presidential Gold Award.   She was one of only 3 in the 6th grade to earn it.  To get it, you have to have all A's from 4th through 6th grade.  Way to go Lindsey!
(Note:  Jon encouraged her to politely decline it because it was signed by Barack Obama).
But, she didn't!
Way to go Lindsey!

I have mentioned this before, but this cute friend of Lindsey's is moving this summer.  They have been on the same soccer team this year.  Lindsey was the passer and Olivia was the scorer!  Olivia also convinced Lindsey to do Jazz dance together, which they loved.

Jack's 4th grade plays

Now, to compare the excitement about performing that Hannah has and the dread about performing that Jack has....

This guy had 4th grade plays on the last Monday of the school year.   I knew there were plays and I knew what time it was....but this guy conveniently forgot to tell me his play was a "western" and he was supposed to wear western attire.   So, Jack went to school in an athletic shirt and shorts.

But - as least he was in it - although you could tell he hated every second of it :)

Way to go buddy - we're proud of you - I think :)
