Lindsey - 6th grade Shakespeare

One of the great traditions at Longview Elementary is the 6th grade performances of Shakespeare plays.   Each year, the 6th graders work extremely hard and learn all about Shakespeare and then put on several performances.

Lindsey's class did little excerpts from Hamlet, MacBeth, Taming of the Shrew & Midsummer's Night Dream.

Since she saw the plays as a 4th grader, Lindsey wanted to play the part of Kate in Taming of the Shrew.  Kate is the shrew in the story.  She worked hard and was so excited to be casted into that part.   She loved it!   And, she did such a great job at it!   I love how well the teacher casted each student - so perfect for each student!

Jon (and his mom and aunt who were in town) went and saw her for the Thursday performance (they just perform them in their classroom) and Emily & I went for the Friday performance.  For the Friday show, Lindsey also played the part of Lady MacBeth (since the student playing her was out of town).  You'd never guess that Lindsey wasn't originally casted into that role.

Great job Lindsey!  You were the best!

I love this picture of her - she's so grown up and so beautiful!

PTA Events

Yes, yes, we are still alive!   February was such a busy PTA month that I think I've just felt the need to take a break from blogging!   Plus, our computer has been extremely slow.

But, I wanted to document a few thoughts and pictures about PTA before I forget.  I'm finishing my second year as PTA President, with 2 years of being Treasurer before that.  I have thoroughly enjoyed working in these 2 positions.  I've loved the people that I've become friends with, I love knowing all the teachers, I love knowing the principal, custodian & school secretary and I love walking in the school and having kids say "Hi Mrs. Bowen!"   It's so great!  It really is!

I am excited to be handing over the responsibilities in a few months and I'm looking forward to helping in other positions on the PTA board, as well as the serving as the secretary for the region PTA.    I am excited to have a little more time to myself  (occasionally, maybe), but I will miss many aspects of it.

So, just to prove that I wasn't sitting around, the month of February, here are a couple of highlights.....

For the first time in several years, we did a school spelling bee.  My Co-President, Jen Davies, was in charge of this and did spectacular!  These were the cute winners from our school - who then competed in the Region Spelling Bee and did great!

We also did our 2nd annual White Ribbon Week in February.   Cathy Gilmore is the chairperson over this and once again, did amazing!   We had a lunch activity each day, had a parent night for the parents and brought in a motivational speaker for the students.  Internet safety - so, so important!

The week after White Ribbon Week, we celebrated Dr. Suess' birthday and had donuts and milk for the students.   The reading coordinator offered to read Hannah and her friend Hanna a story.  Can you tell how well Hannah focuses?

 Mrs. Amos, our principal

Kate made this cute sign for the door.

 Our school Secretary, Mrs. Gillen

The same day as the Dr. Suess day, Jack's 4th grade teacher (who also lives in our ward), received the Murray Pinnacle Award.

I spent hours & hours during the month of February preparing award applications for a teacher, a volunteer, our White Ribbon Week program and our principal.  It's always so worth doing even if they don't win at the State level, but it's great to let them know how much we appreciate them.

Anyway, that was my PTA month!  Yay for Longview Elementary!

President's Day Weekend - St. George

Right after the school Valentine's Parties - we packed up the Suburban and headed to St. George.  Jack & Emily were playing in the Ice Breakers Soccer Tournament down there.  We were excited to leave the colder air of Salt Lake for a little bit warmer air in St. George.

We had a fun condo to stay in and Rich & Misty and their kids came too, which made it extra fun.   Jack & Emily both played 2 games on Saturday.

This was during Jack's first game - all the little siblings who are girls were gathered around coloring and talking.

That night, Rich & Misty treated us to pizza from The Pizza Factory - one of our favorites!  It was so yummy and it was great to have a condo to bring it home and eat it there.  All the restaurants were jam packed!

On Sunday, we met the Spackman's & Mosley's at Zions to do some hiking.  It was perfect, perfect weather and all the kids did a great job on the hike.   It took us several hours and got to enjoy time with our great friends.

What a great group of kids!  (Jack and Hannah didn't get the memo to turn around for this picture)

Stopping for a little snack

This little guy was such a good trooper!

When we got back, the kids wanted to swim.  It was too cold for the big pool and apparently the hot tub heater had been broken, so it wasn't very warm.  But that didn't stop these kids from swimming.

On Monday, Jack & Emily played again in the morning.   Emily's team was playing for the final spot in the championship game.  They tied 0 to 0 and went into overtime.  No one scored again, so they did penalty shots.  Unfortunately, we lost 4 to 3.   They played so well though!

Jack's team did play in the championship game, but lost, so they came away with silver.   Not bad though, considering it's been winter and all soccer has had to be inside.

We drove home Monday after Jack's game.  We had a great time!  We feel every fortunate that our kids are healthy and have great coaches and we have great friends to do stuff like this with.
