Trip to Oregon

We had a great visit in Union! Jon's dad has just completed 5 weeks of radiation for a cancerous growth that had appeared on his neck over the summer. He had prostate cancer several years ago, and the cancer returned. Diane would drive him to Walla Walla each day (2 hours each direction) and he received the treatment. He has done well, but has lost his appetite and has had a hard time eating. He mostly drinks Ensure and is occasionally able to eat a little bit of food. Jon had a few days off and we felt it was important to go and see them.

The kids love being in Union and spending time with Grandma and Grandpa, Aunt Rebecca and Uncle Paul. (We see Uncle Bill sometimes, but it's mostly when he drops in to grab a plate of food). The kids were incredible on the drive. We stopped once, fed them lunch and we literally didn't hear a peep from Hannah the rest of the 4 1/2 hour drive.

We had a yummy Sunday dinner with them. On Monday, we started to help rake up leaves in the backyard. The kids all helped and had a good time. Then Uncle Paul took Jon, Emily, Lindsey and Jack shooting. They had a great time! Jon and Jack continued to work really hard in the yard and cleaning out an old shop.

On Tuesday, Grandma taught Emily how to make delicious scones. Aunt Rebecca would bring her cats over and Uncle Paul brought his dog, Lucy over and the kids had a blast. We love being able to sit and visit with them and were so grateful for good weather so that we could go.

Grandpa Jack has lost quite a bit of weight and he sleeps a lot of the time, but his memory seemed especially sharp this trip and he perked up several times while we were there. We'll go again during the holiday season, but we cherished each moment of this trip as well!
